My Blog return! Sorta...

Posted by modifierwong at 09:29 PM on March 9, 2008 in Wong Life.

So I haven't written in this blog for a LONG while. It doesn't mean that I've abandoned the world of blogging, but it does mean that I've been keeping up with my school work and assignments and midterms and trip planning and...well, a few other things as well.

I'm glad to say that I've been having a pretty great blast during my free time, either playing Gran Turismo and racing on the Nurburgring, or just sleeping in past your normal wake up time.

I can't wait until May this year because there's one thing that's going to be one of the highlights of my life, visiting the automotive Kingdom of the world: Germany. I landed a one year internship there and not only will I be living in Germany for the first time, I'll also be living in a dorm for the first time, as well as being paid in euro's! How great is that? I've also been busy getting my passport renewed, sending in Visa applications, taking passport photos, and proving to the Government of Germany that I am not a criminal by getting myself a police clearance check.

I've also got to upgrade my laptop as 60GB of hard drive space will not last me a year and I also have to get a new digital Camera as well. I've been looking one of them really stands out from the others.

The Panasonic TZ5. It isn't released yet, but it has a 10x optical zoom and records video in full 720P HD resolution at 30fps! It's gonna be great for my travels in europe, taking rides on the ICE and for sure bombing down the German Autobahn, getting passed by Porsches.

The only disadvantage about working in Germany is that I want to bring back some money to use and being in Europe, that may be a very tough proposition. Wish me Luck! Now, I've gotta finish up an assignment that I've put off all week...

The Love of Tim Hortons

Posted by modifierwong at 10:31 AM on March 10, 2008 in Wong Life.

So I've got 10 minutes before I head to class/tutorial.

Today is an exception because I actually woke up and made it on time to my 8:30 class this morning! I think it is partly due to the fact that my mom just came back from China and needed the car to go out today, and maybe also the fact that guilt had finally washed over me. I hadn't been to this class in a month. Um...Maybe I shouldn't tell you that.

Anyways, during my little break, I decided to go grab a bagel at the student's life-support center, Tim Horton's. It was my usual picking, an everything bagel with butter. I can never get tired of it. But that's the thing. Sometimes when I eat bagels everyday, it makes me sick of it to the point where I never want to step into a Tim hortons again. But then after a few days of not eating it, I start craving it like I haven't eaten in days. I tell you, they've spiked those bagels...

So after finishing the bagels my mouth was still watering for some drink and what do you know, Tim Hortons is holding their annual 'RRRoll up the rim to win' contest where you could actually win a car by buying a coffee! I figured I could justify the $1.38 expense by paying for a bit of idiot tax as well.

The last time I had won anything in this contest was YEARS ago, and I didn't even buy the drink myself. Hey, who knows, maybe I'll win another coffee this time, or just have another one of those, 'Thank you, Play again.' messages. Thanks Tim Horton's for satisfying my craving. NO THANKS for emptying my already empty student wallet and for creating the craving in the first place! You better give me a donut!

Formula One, and the lack of

Posted by modifierwong at 12:09 AM on March 16, 2008 in Wong Life.

So this year's Formula One season is turning out to be one heck of a start. The reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonnen had a fuel problem and can only start from 16 on the grid. Robert Kubica of BMW grabbed a surprise 2nd on the starting grid after one heck of a high speed fumble, though this isn't the first time that I've seen him drift an F1 car.

I was able to catch the qualifying live with my friend, but the problem now is that I can't find a place to watch the actual race! According to my calculations, it should have started just a few minutes ago

I don't have Cable TV in my house and the only way I can watch it is:
a) Wait a few days until a download pops up on the internet, all the while avoiding the news
b) Wait one day so I can borrow a DVD from my friend who recorded the race.
c) raid someone's house right now and demand to watch the race
d) Wait until tomorrow afternoon and bug my girlfriend to watch it in her house.

I have to say, choice c) sounds interesting, but choice d) sounds the most promising. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to hope for the best and eventually watch the first Formula One race of the season! Go Ferrari!
